Small-space cleaning: condos, suites and downsized homes
5 min read · February 14, 2026
Compact homes get dirty faster and show it sooner. Here's the routine built for square footage under 900.
In a small home there is nowhere for mess to hide, cooking smells travel everywhere, and one cluttered surface reads as chaos. The upside: the whole place can be reset in under an hour.
The 40-minute full reset
Work in one direction around the home: clear surfaces into a basket, wipe every horizontal surface, clean the bathroom top to bottom, wipe kitchen counters and sink, then vacuum and damp mop in one pass. Doing it in a fixed order beats doing it fast.
Ventilation matters more
Small volumes of air load up quickly. Run the range hood every single time you cook — not just when something burns — and leave the bathroom fan going for 20 minutes after a shower. It prevents the grease film and mould that make small homes hard to clean later.
Storage is a cleaning tool
Every item without a home becomes a surface obstacle. One closed bin per category, and a rule that flat surfaces stay 80% empty, keeps cleaning time down permanently.
Fixed order, real ventilation, and empty flat surfaces — small homes reward routine.
