Seven questions to ask before you hire any cleaning company
6 min read · October 22, 2025
Insurance, bonding, background checks and cancellation terms — the answers that separate a professional company from a coin flip.
You are handing a stranger a key to your home. These seven questions take five minutes to ask and will tell you almost everything you need to know.
1–3: The safety questions
Are your cleaners employees or subcontractors? Do you carry liability insurance, and for how much? Is every cleaner covered by WorkSafeBC? If cleaners are subcontractors without WorkSafeBC coverage and one is injured in your home, you may be exposed personally.
4–5: The trust questions
Is every cleaner criminal-record checked, and how recently? Will I have the same cleaner each visit? Consistency is not just a comfort thing — a helper who knows your home cleans it measurably better by the third visit.
6–7: The money questions
Is the quoted price final, and what triggers a change? What is your cancellation and lockout policy in writing? Vague pricing is the most common source of complaints in this industry.
- Ask for the price in writing before booking
- Ask what happens if the cleaner cannot get in
- Ask whether supplies and GST are included
A red flag worth naming
If a company will not put its price and policies in writing before the first visit, walk away. That is exactly why we email your reviewed price along with the full service agreement before you ever book.
Insurance, WorkSafeBC, background checks, consistency and a written price. Five minutes of questions, years of peace of mind.
