Ten minutes of prep that doubles what your cleaner gets done

4 min read · December 18, 2025

You are paying for cleaning time, not tidying time. This short pre-clean routine buys you a visibly better result.

Every hour a helper spends moving your belongings is an hour they are not scrubbing. Clients who do a ten-minute pick-up before we arrive consistently get a noticeably better clean for the same price.

Clear the horizontal surfaces

Counters, dressers, nightstands and dining tables. Put items into a basket rather than putting them away properly — speed matters more than tidiness here. A cleared counter can be fully disinfected; a cluttered one can only be wiped around.

Handle the floor

Toys, laundry, shoes, pet bowls and charging cables. Anything on the floor is something that has to be picked up, set aside, and put back — three handling steps that add up fast across a whole house.

Secure pets and set the temperature

Even the friendliest dog slows a clean down and creates a safety issue around chemicals and cords. A closed room with water and a toy is best. Set the thermostat around 20°C — helpers work hard and an overheated house slows everyone down.

Leave a note about priorities

One sentence in your booking notes changes everything: 'Please prioritise the kitchen and main bath, the guest room can be skipped.' Your helper will follow it exactly.

The takeaway

Clear surfaces, clear floors, secure pets, name your priorities. Ten minutes, measurably better result.
